In this assignment, you are asked to read and summarize some readings related to rhythm. Choose either three articles OR one book to review. Summarize each reading as outlined below. The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with an opportunity to investigate further some sub-topic in the area of rhythm.

1. Select your readings. Select either three published research articles, or one published book. You might find the course bibliography useful in looking for suitable materials. However, you are free to select published scholarly work that does not appear in the course bibliography. If you choose to review three articles, you should choose articles that have a common theme or relate to some shared topic. You might consider choosing recent publications.
2. Read the work. Keep notes as you write. For research articles, you may need to read an article more than once in order to fully understand it.
3. For a series of articles, begin by describing the common theme or topic shared by the articles chosen. (This is not necessary for books.) Provide a full bibliographic reference for each work.
4. In summarizing the work, you should include answers to the following questions.
   (i) What is the broad goal or overall purpose of this general area of research?
   (ii) What is the specific goal or purpose of this particular work?
   (iii) What approach did the author(s) take?
   (iv) What results did the author(s) find?
   (v) What problems (if any) do you think exist (or might exist) in the work?
   (vi) What questions remain unanswered?
5. Your review should be a minimum of six pages.
